About the event

Where are we off to this time?

Bankhead Ghost Town - Bankhead, Alberta was a small coal mining town that existed in the early twentieth century. All of Bankhead's buildings were built and owned by the company and rented to the residents. In 1926, many of the town's buildings were moved to Banff and Canmore. The Bankhead Railway Station now sits on the grounds of the Banff Hostel on Tunnel Mountain Road. It has a map of the Bankhead townsite posted outside its front door.

Today, an interpretive trail runs through Lower Bankhead. Signs are placed along the trail identifying the major buildings, as well as other interesting facts. Many foundations of buildings are visible. One building remains intact and contains displays viewed through the windows. Remains of the town are also visible adjacent to the Upper Bankhead parking lot.

Bow Falls - Bow Falls is a beautiful waterfall just outside the Town of Banff. Bow Falls is one wide waterfall that spans the Bow River. Dropping just 9 meters down, it’s not a huge waterfall in Alberta by any means, but it is still one of the best sights to see near the townsite. Surrounded by natural scenery and rocky cliffs, Bow Falls is also one of the most accessible waterfalls in the Canadian Rockies.

Canmore -  Wander the main streets of Canmore. Find a place to enjoy lunch and then browse the wide variety of shops and galleries.  Don't miss out on the candy store!!

Come along with us for a great day out.  Lunch is self buy but snacks are included in the cost and everyone over the age of 18 is welcome so bring a friend or family member.
